Maia is a Music Education Major at Virginia Commonwealth University studying under Susanna Klein. She is originally from Chesapeake, VA, where she attended Grassfield High School’s STEM Academy and served various roles in the Orchestra program. Maia served as concertmaster for the Chamber Orchestra her senior year when they competed and won the grand prize in a national competition, with Maia receiving an outstanding soloist award. She also served as the student director for the whole program and continues to make trips to assist with concerts. The same year, Maia won the yearly Concerto Competition at her High School and was awarded with both the peer-selected Student of the Year Award and the Director-selected Director’s Award.

 

She also participated in Hampton Roads Chamber Players and Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra during her high school years. For her required internship, Maia served twice in the administrative staff for HRCP’s yearly summer program, mentoring younger students and helping to run the camp. Maia has studied under Jorge Aguirre and has inherited his love for enriching the lives of young musicians.

 

Maia also enjoys playing in church worship teams, where she hones her improvisation and musicianship skills. She loves to spend time with her younger sister and cats. Maia is an artist/graphic designer and loves to create gifts for her friends.
